In an ever changing industry with lots of trends, I wanted to share my favorite “trends” that I think are so unique and fun. First I want to note that since trends seem to change so quickly, only do something that you really love and not for the sole purpose of being trendy. You want to love your photos for a long time, so if these “trends” resonate well with you, you should absolutely do them! At the end of the day it is all about having a wedding that you will love and enjoy

1. Bridesmaids with Bouquets of separate flowers making up the bride's bouquet.

Instead of having the same set of flowers in each bouquet and just making the bride’s bouquet slightly bigger than the other bouquets, some brides have opted to make the brides bouquet like normal, with an array of different flowers and colors and sizes and each of the bridesmaids have a bouquet consisting of only one type of flower that is shown in the bride’s bouquet. For example if the bride’s bouquet consists of Peony, Roses, Ranunculus and Dahlias, the maid of honor might have a bouquet of only Peony’s, the next bridesmaid only having Roses, and so on and so forth.

The reasoning behind this is actually so special. The bride is her own person but each of the bridesmaids are from a different chapter in her life that all play a part in who she is now. Each of the flowers represents a different bridesmaid that has made her life so beautiful in their own unique ways. The bride’s bouquet actually symbolizing each of her bridesmaids is so special and such a unique thing to see at a wedding. Something I love the idea of and how symbolic it is.

2. Mismatched Bridesmaid dresses

Another way I love to see unique personalities and variety in photos is by having mismatched bridesmaid dresses. I think having different bridesmaid dresses adds so much to the photos. It makes them more exciting and makes everyone stand out in their own unique ways. Instead of one solid color and material, the variety of shades and textures and patterns creates a lot of visual interest in the photos. Some brides have even asked their bridesmaids to pick out their own dress that represents them well as long as they are within their color scheme. This can turn out so beautiful and you can have all of your bridesmaid’s personalities shown on your big day.

3. Colorful Ties and Suits

Long gone are the days where black tuxedos are the only option available for the groom and groomsmen. If the bride is able to stand out from the bridesmaids, why not let the groom have his shining moment too? I have always loved seeing the groom come out in a colored suit different from the groomsmen. It helps him stand out and makes sure it looks like he is meant to be the focal point in all of the group photos of him and his groomsmen. It is especially fun when the groom chooses a color that represents him and brings out his personality as well. Brides spend a bunch of time choosing a dress that feels like them, and represents them well. From the fit of the dress, to the choice of fabric, brides have so many options to make sure it is the dress of their dreams and makes them stand out on that day. Why not let the men have a little creative freedom as well

4. Intricate detail photos

I absolutely love framing the details in a way that not only represents the day very well, but shows off how beautiful all of the items that you love dearly are. Make sure to look at some of the detail work that your photographer has done in the past to make sure they have a good grasp of how to lay out details and how to capture them best. I will often bring a poster board that matches the theme of the wedding so I ensure there is a good background to take the detailed photos on. I will also bring ribbon the color of the wedding decorations that can be used to add a little something extra to the photos. I have seen details being overlooked by brides before saying they aren’t concerned with capturing those parts of the day, but I think it can be such a special thing to look back on all of the special things you used on your big day. Even if you lose one of the items years down the road, you can always have a picture of it at your wedding.

5. Candid Wedding photos

Candid’s at weddings are getting increasingly popular as people want to remember their day as it was, who was there, and in a natural way. Wanting to remember what it FELT like to be there at your wedding. The loving glances the guests give you, the hugs your family give each other as they celebrate this wonderful day is something only able to be captured in the moment as it happens. There is definitely a place for posed wedding pictures, but having natural pictures of you hugging your aunt as they find you in the reception or of your two families joined for the first time in conversation, is not something you can plan out and pose for. Those are such special moments that are to be captured in their most natural way. I love that this trend is gaining more popularity.

6. Film Photography

This one may be my favorite trend, as we offer film photography in all of our wedding packages and I absolutely love shooting on film. However, there is a reason that many people love the look of film and are wanting to have it at their weddings. For one, film has a way of making people look good. If you think of disposable cameras and how every picture seems to turn out well and everyone is looking their best, that is why lots of people enjoy film, it makes them look better. There is a natural authentic part of film that is so hard to emulate through digital work. For two, the color of film stocks is desired by many. Portra 400, Ultramax 400, Fujifilm 200, and even Kodak Gold are very popular because of the unique colors and styles that you can get out of them. I have even seen brides put disposable cameras at each table at the reception and have people take pictures of everything, and they turn out so much cuter than phone photos! I would love to chat more and show you what adding film to your wedding can look like!
